Year 7 Team Building Day 2010
Every year during the first term we hold a team building day for our new year 7 pupils, during the day we suspend normal lessons and the day is spent doing various team building tasks to help increase pupil’s confidence and get them working together in teams. This year the day was organised by Benfields very own Sports Leaders. A Management team of 8 Year 12 and 13 students was put together and they worked extremely hard to plan and co-ordinate the activities for the year 7 teams. Then on the day the management committee directed and organised a team of Sports Leadership students to run the day themselves. The day was a huge success and extremely enjoyable; pupils took part in team building tasks such as Message in a Bottle, Blindfold Tent Building, Egg Drop, Blindfold Walk, Paper Cup Tower Building, Water Slide and many more. Colours Evening 2010
Colours Evening is our annual sports presentation night where we award pupils who have represented the school, county or country in a competitive sport. We also award “colours” to our Sports Leaders for organising and running clubs within school and the local community. This year we had four sporting stars to present awards and trophies to the pupils; Newcastle Falcon and All-Black Carl Hayman, Great Britain Athlete Chris Tomlinson, Althlete Amy Guy aka “Siren” from Gladiators and Great Britain Swimmer Karen Pickering MBE. There were various performances by the schools dancers and cheerleaders and the whole night was a huge success which was enjoyed by pupils, parents, staff and our guests of honour. Karen Pickering commented “It was lovely to meet all the pupils and staff from Benfield at Colours Evening. It was so nice to see an event like that put on for the pupils to celebrate their sporting achievements” To see the full display of photos from the night please go to the Gallery.
Badminton Success
This has been Badminton BEST’s most successful year yet with both the junior and senior teams winning their age groups in the National Schools Badminton Championships, Newcastle Round, Tyne & Wear finals and then the Regional finals. The boys in both teams were unbeaten and put in great performances and convincing wins in all three competitions. Both teams then travelled to Nottingham to take part in the National Finals of the competition at Centre Parcs. After an extremely hard competition The Key Stage 4 team came 9th, Ariso Prids from the team said that they were satisfied with the results just by observing the standard of play they competed with, and the team are confident that next year their performance will be stronger due to the difference in age category. The Key Stage 3 team did extremely well and came 7th which means that the Benfield boys are seventh best in the country for their age group which is an incredible achievement and the team should be very proud. Margaret Perry the Badminton Development Office commented “I am extremely proud of all the boys, the extent of our domination in both the county and regional rounds was fabulous but it didn’t really prepare us for the step up to the National Finals and we need to ensure we play adults next year to give us the competition we need to prepare us for a real tilt at the national title.” Due to both the teams successful run in the championships they were jointly awarded with “Team of the Year” at this years “Colours Evening”
