Benfield School-A Specialist Sports College

Welcome to our website which was launched in May 2004. Benfield School has been a Specialist Sports College since 1997. In addition, the Benfield Centre for Sporting Excellence was opened in 2001 following a substantial lottery application. These two events have contributed towards Benfield School being regarded as a hub-site for sport within Newcastle-upon-Tyne. We are also home to both Newcastle School Sport Co-ordinators Partnership and the Senior Competition Manager for Tyne and Wear. We also act as the Local Delivery Agency for the continual professional development of PE teachers across the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

We are likely to be undertaking our next redesignation process in the next few months which will mark a new chapter for the development of the Sports College as it seeks to address new issues and undertake new challenges. We certainly have the infrastructure in order for us to be able to undertake such challenges; a multi-million pound community sportshall, a recently redeveloped fitness suite and swimming pool and an excellent team of dedicated staff ensure that Benfield is able to continue to lead the way in innovative and effective Sports College practice.

It contains up-to-date photographs in the Gallery and news of our latest events, our Colours Evening in April where our special guests Carl Hayman, Chris Tomlinson, Amy Guy and Karen Pickering MBE presented awards to our pupils, as well as our Leadership Residential in The Cheviots for those pupils who had assisted us the most in leading and developing activities and clubs for younger pupils over the previous 12 months.
